Scanner alerts school to sex-offenders
ABC 7 Southland News, Manhattan Beach, CA

Sunday, December 02, 2007 | 11:05 PM - A middle school in Manhattan Beach is the first in the state to install a scanner system.

When parents, volunteers or visitors enter Manhattan Beach Middle School, the system scans their driver's license and checks to see if they are registered sex offenders.

If a match is found, the scanner flashes "possible offender" on a screen and sends text messages and e-mails to the principal and the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The start-up cost for installing the "V-Soft" system is $1,500.

If you do not see the V•soft logo at the top of your screen, click [ here ] to return to the main page.
