News and Information Program to track campus visitors at 5 schools September 30, 2007 Five Carroll school district campuses plan to start using a software program next month that tracks campus visitors and volunteers. School officials met Wednesday to discuss the V-Soft program, which allows school districts to check for registered sex offenders as people enter campus. Visitors will have to scan their driver's licenses when they check in. The system compares the data against computer databases and prints a disposable photo identification badge. The software is from Houston-based Raptor Technologies. Staff members have been trained to use the software. District officials are reviewing operating procedures to be followed during check-in, said Lowell Strike, assistant superintendent for student services. School officials said the system only checks data on sex offenses, not other criminal information such as traffic tickets or warrants. The school board viewed a demonstration of the system Sept. 10. Schools in the pilot program are Dawson, Johnson and Rockenbaugh elementary schools and Carroll High and Carroll Senior High schools. |
