Cameron ISD Cracking Down on Unwanted Visitors
July 10, 2007, KXXV, Waco, TX, by Eric Gemmell

CAMERON - The Cameron School Board approved a measure to purchase software to weed out visitors with criminal histories.

Starting next school year, each of the district's four campuses will be using V-SCAN, a program that enables the district to swipe a state issued ID card into a data base to see whether visitors have a prior criminal history.

Although Cameron ISD has not had any previous problems with un welcomed guests arriving on school grounds, district Superintendent Rodney Faucett said it is a preventative measure to keep children, staff and teachers safe.

Residents in Cameron embrace the school's decision.

Parent and Cameron Resident, Ricky Williams said, "If the tools are out there to effectively deal with it then we need to take advantage of that."

The program will cost the district roughly $7,000.
