Woodbridge leaders pushing for sex offender scanner in schools
Woodbridge, NJ, Channel 12 News

(08/08/05) WOODBRIDGE – Local leaders in Woodbridge are pushing for the implementation of a high-tech system designed to keep sex offenders out of schools.

The system, called VSoft, works by scanning the driver’s licenses of every visitor at a particular school. That person’s information is then searched against data in a sex offender registry. If the individual is located in the registry, access to the school will be denied.

Woodbridge’s mayor and city legislators are meeting with the company behind VSoft this week to discuss a pilot program. The system is already being used at some schools throughout the United States. Although the typical installation cost for VSoft totals around $1,500 per school, Woodbridge would not be charged for the pilot program.
